“Tired” Doesn’t Cover It Anymore

You sit in the parking lot before you go inside.

Engine off. Radio off. Not because you need quiet, but because it’s the only place nobody needs anything from you.

You’re tired. Not sleep-tired. Tired of being tired. Tired of carrying it. Tired of white-knuckling your way through another day.

What’s Actually Happening

I think I’m becoming what I swore I never would.

That thought comes from years of staying on when everything in you needed to rest. Your nervous system being on 24/7 for everyone else has taken a serious toll on you.

And the performance of strength – the holding it together, the keeping it smooth, the not letting it show – that’s pushed you to the point of breaking.

Counseling with Me Is Different

I spent years in law enforcement watching men operate at full capacity on the outside while quietly coming apart on the inside.

I know what it costs to carry something no one else can see. When you sit across from me, you don’t have to translate.

Why Men Come Here

I’ve worked alongside the men who carry what civilians don’t see. When you come in off a shift – or off a decade of shifts – I don’t need the backstory explained.

  • Law Enforcement & First Responder Experience I've worked alongside the men who carry what civilians don't see.
  • Faith-Forward. Faith Not Required. Ministry leadership shaped how I work. Faith is never a liability in this room. Neither is doubt. What matters is honesty.
  • Trauma-Informed Approach Most men don't arrive here knowing they're dealing with trauma. They arrive exhausted. I know how to recognize what's underneath that.
My Three-Phase Approach to Counseling Men

How Our Work Unfolds

01·

The Foundation

We slow down enough to see what's actually driving the behavior. No performance required here. Honest ground before anything else.

02·

The Work

We go into the weight – the anger, the grief, the footage that plays at 2 a.m. – and we work it. Named things lose their grip.

03·

The Rebuild

You start living forward. Not managing. Not white-knuckling. Actually leading. Lighter. Present. Yourself again.

Most men don't arrive here knowing they're dealing with trauma. They arrive exhausted. I know how to recognize what's underneath that – and how to work with it without making it bigger than the man in front of me.

Meet Erik

Hi, I'm Erik Charles.

I hold a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University, and I’m a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC).

My journey started behind a barber chair, long before the counseling credential – listening to men say things out loud for the first time. That’s still the foundation of how I work today.

Frequently Asked Questions

See How It Works
What if I'm not sure I'm ready?

You don’t have to be ready. You have to be tired enough to stop pretending. That’s enough to start.

Is this faith-based counseling?

Faith is offered. It is never required. Men of all backgrounds come to me for support. What I ask of every man is honesty – and I’ll give you the same.

What do sessions look like?

About 45 minutes. We talk about what’s real, name what’s actually driving it, and figure out what the next right step looks like. Always a real exchange – not a script.

What if I'm not in crisis – just worn down?

Worn down is where most men are when they finally call. Not broken. Not in crisis. Just tired from carrying what they’re carrying – and ready to understand what it means. That’s exactly the right time to start.
